I'm planning to move up from a Rifter frigate to a Stabber Cruiser shortly (and then eventually a Rupture). I aim to play mainly as an escort for corp miners, taking out NPC pirates and the odd solo player who takes a bite that he shouldn't.
My question is this, what have players here found to be the best combination/setup of weapons and shields etc?... Your experiences would be of considerable help...
I am thinking, (which may change depending on the replies to this thread) to train up for Heavy Missiles (in both missile slots)... but haven't a clue for the 4 turrets... The Stabber just has velocity bonus with nothing for any particular type of weapon... Please supply your thoughts below!

That all sounds sensible advice...
How feasible is using all Energy weapons?, or will that just screw the capacitor... I really dont't know whether I should have 1 long range weapon (energy?), 2 mid range (Long range projectile) and 1 short range (close quarters projectile)... is that mix a good idea... or will it just gimp me for all situations? |

Edited by: Apollo Adama on 29/07/2003 10:47:10 Well I did it!... I bought a Rupture and have been gradually fitting it out, as well as purchasing and training in the skills I think I will find most useful to fly it at it's optimum level.
I found all the information above very useful... however, I have gone against what some of you have recommended and have instead gone for 4 lasers of varying range and power ( one medium beam laser, one medium pulse laser, 2 small dual beam lasers with different crystals on each - between them all covering an optimum range of 5K to 11k), and one Heavy missile launcher and one assault launcher.
In my mid slots I have one mid shield recharger (sorry if I dont get the names completely correct as I'm writing this from work based on my poor memory!), and two Afterburner 1's.
In my low slots I have 2 CPU level increasers, and heat sink, a stabiliser and, for the moment a cargo expander (until I get trained enough to add something more useful).
I'm training in the skill Controlled Bursts to reduce the effect of the lasers on my capacitor... etc. In fact it is obviously the capacitor that will take the most abuse... but I'm hoping I can counter that with the appropriate training and hardware.
I seem to manage perfectly well in a 0.3 system... without even using my missiles and rockets... this of course will change as I drop down to lower security systems... but hopefully by then I will have a better idea of tactics, and be more skilled up!
Obviously, any more thoughts you have would be welcomed...

I forgot to say that I am also training up in drones, as I agree with someone mentioned above that the Rupture has a useful capacity for them... I've just got 3 Hobgoblins atm... but that will be sure to increase...

Thanks Slithereen that looks like an interesting set up...
When I have a bit more cash I will buy that equipment and try it out...

What ship actually uses lasers, 'cos everyone keeps saying use projectiles etc... Are lasers actually the optimal weapon for anyone?... I guess Battleships have a large enough capacitor to cope, but what about cruisers??

Thanks for taking the time to jot down your experience of Ruptures Slithereen. That has been very handy. I did start this thread to find out what a good combat setup was for my Rupture, and that has put me on the right path.
Since I started this thread I have been trying different things out. Having played with the lasers I can see that they I am living dangerously.
I will definitely follow your advice about the set up Slithereen... and you are right about the skills required... so many... looks like I will have to invest a little more in projectile skills and hardware...
Just like to say thank you to everyone who has provided their advice here... it has turned out to be a superb thread for any Rupture pilot!
